What’s been happening:

I retired from the Office of Indian Education with US Dept. of Educ. in Washington, DC in 1992. I earned my PhD in 1977 after completing my field research study that confirmed that the Bureau of Indian Affairs school board operation was an advisory one with no authority to make decisions about their role like the state public school boards. My dissertation was used as a source of reference in Washington, DC to streamline the policies and procedures that gave them the full authority to make meaningful decisions about their schools. To date, they thoroughly enjoy the pleasure of serving on the BIA school boards. My family includes: my wife, Norma Jean Jones; my son, Ralph Jones; my twin daughters, Donna R. Jones and Vonda K. Jones-Okuma. We lost a son, Bryan J. Jones, in 1998 in Flagstaff, AZ. We raised his children: Rebecca Jones and Gabriel Jones. We have five paternal grandchildren who are involved with their schooling in the Four Corners Region of the Navajo Nation.
